  If you take your car here and the mechanic claims you need a new battery, do not agree to it!
  
  Two weeks ago I took my car here to get the front brake pads replaced. Shortly after I dropped it off, the mechanic called me to say "When we tried to start your car to bring it into the workshop, the battery was completely dead and we had to jump-start it - do you want us to replace the battery??"
  
  I have never had a problem with this battery and I knew that if there really is a problem, I can just go to Supercheap and buy a battery and replace it myself, rather than pay a mechanic to do it. So I told them not to replace the battery.
  
  When I went to pick my car up, I asked the mechanic what's the deal with the battery. His response was "ohhh well it didn't start the first time, but then when we had to take it out of the garage it started fine, so umm, I'm not really sure what the problem is".
  
  Call me a cynic, but I find it impossible to believe that the one and only time there is an issue with my battery ("dead" apparently) is when it's in the possession of a mechanic who can make a quick buck by replacing it. Even harder to believe is that it miraculously came back to life when I picked my car up after telling them not to replace it!
  
  In the two weeks since, I have driven my car nearly every day and have not had a single problem with the battery.
  
  Even if the mechanics were being genuine, and my battery did temporarily "die" while it was in the workshop, the fact of the matter is I do not need a new battery yet they were very quick to tell me I needed a new one, which would have cost me a totally unnecessary $200.
